Property Appraiser, Wesley Davis, announces changes to ensure public safety and continued services.
“My primary duty as Property Appraiser is to serve Indian River County citizens”, said Indian River County Property Appraiser, Wesley Davis said in a statement outlining changes in the Property Appraisers office to help continue to provide necessary services and ensure safety.
“Many of our neighbors who visit our offices are in a high-risk group”, said Davis. “To limit the need for applicants to visit our office in person I am announcing a series of changes effective March 18, 2020.
1. It is no longer necessary for the public to come to the Property Appraisers to receive needed services. Effective 5 pm Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
2. However, due to the recent launch of ircpa.org website, we now have the ability to continue uninterrupted service to both professional and casual users without requiring a personal visit. Our employees will continue to work to ensure that all residents and businesses may access all the functions and information they need without having to visit any location in person. This
includes the ability to file online for Homestead exemptions.
3. Documentation requirements will be made easier to allow applications with only those documents that can be submitted online such as driver license number, voter registration and secured social security information required by state statute. If other information is required, our staff will contact applicants directly but will not require a personal visit.
4. Applications may now be made by telephone by calling 772-226-1469.
5. The Property Appraiser has the authority under certain circumstances to accept applications after the March 1 Homestead exemption deadline. I have approved a health concern exception to extend the filing period through April 30 if needed.
6. We are contacting businesses and professionals such as accounting firms to inform them that they will automatically be allowed to extend the deadline for filing Tangible Personal Property returns for an additional 45 days. Forms needed to request extensions are now available on our all-new website at ircpa.org.
